The Prosecco Road stretches across the Prosecco Hills, connecting Valdobbiadene with Conegliano. Characterized by gentle ups and downs, alternating slopes and moderately challenging climbs, the Prosecco Hills are part of the Treviso Pre-Alps or foothills. The morphology is defined by hilly and mountainous reliefs that extend between the Piave River and the Cansiglio Forest, marking the border between the provinces of Treviso and Belluno.

The Treviso foothills boast a diverse vegetation, including beech, red fir, and chestnut forests, as well as meadows, pastures, mountain huts (malghe), and long rows of vineyards cultivated on terraces.

The villages in the foothills are twelve, grouped in the mountain union Prealpi Trevigiane. They are Cappella Maggiore, Cison di Valmarino, Cordignano, Follina, Fregona, Miane, Revine Lago, Sarmede, Tarzo, Valdobbiadene, Vidor, and Vittorio Veneto. Other municipalities located at the foot of the Treviso Pre-Alps include Segusino, Farra di Soligo, Pieve di Soligo, and Refrontolo. They are situated at different altitudes, ranging from a minimum of 181 meters above sea level in Vidor to a maximum of 1570 meters above sea level in Cappella Maggiore.

The route on the Prosecco Road and the Conegliano Valdobbiadene Hills has an elevation that ranges from about 100 to 400 meters above sea level, and it is traversed with moderate climbs and descents, sometimes steep but only for short stretches. Along the roads and trails of this district, the elevation differences to be tackled with the bike, facing the Treviso Pre-Alps, depend largely on the type of route you choose.
There are indeed numerous options available for different levels of difficulty, duration, length, and physical preparation. Roads, tracks, and trails range from the lower and flatter ones to the higher and hilly ones, suitable for different types of bicycles: road bikes, mountain bikes, and e-bikes, with different types of road surfaces such as asphalt, dirt paths, etc. Each route is suitable for different passions, preferences, skill levels, and athletic conditions.

The classic tour of the Prosecco Hills is a circular route of about 90km with an elevation gain of just under 1000 meters. There are multiple alternative bike routes available, suitable for all levels of experience and confidence. Here are some of our proposals:

• Bike Tour on the Prosecco Road: An intermediate/easy loop itinerary covering a distance of 50km, with an elevation gain of 700 meters, crossing the Prosecco Hills.
• Montello and Prosecco Hills Wine and Food Tour: A route for everyone, totaling approximately 75km, with stops and tasting sessions of local specialties.
• Castles and Hills of Conegliano Bike Tour: A moderate/challenging route covering a total of 72km, with an elevation gain of approximately 830 meters.

Distances, travel times, altimetry, and elevation difficulties can vary depending on the routes, deviations, athletic preparation, or any customizations of the organized tours.

There are many cycling events and races that attract thousands of passionate tourists every year along the roads between Conegliano and Valdobbiadene. Some of the most important ones include:

• La Prosecco Superiore Wine Stage: This event takes place during the passage of the pink caravan of the Giro d’Italia and crosses the Glera vineyards of Prosecco Superiore Conegliano Valdobbiadene DOCG. The stage features the challenging Muro di Ca’ del Poggio, one of the most spectacular points of the race.
• La Cycling Stars Criterium: The champions’ race, held the day after the end of the Giro d’Italia, featuring the participation of many of the protagonists of the pink race.
• La Prosecco Cycling: A non-competitive cycling event held every year at the end of September or early October, along a 97km route through the Prosecco Hills, starting and finishing in Valdobbiadene.
• La Nova Eroica Prosecco Hills: An event inspired by vintage cycling races, with routes of various lengths and difficulties, including paved and dirt roads, starting and finishing in Susegana.
• La Grandfondo Pinarello: Starting from the 2023 edition, it will transition from a competitive circuit to a non-competitive cycling event.

In addition to these, other cycling events in the province can also be considered, such as:

• La Veneto Gravel: The largest gravel bikepacking event in Europe, held annually in Veneto.
• La Cansiglio Bike Day: Takes place on the plateau bordering the provinces of Treviso, Belluno, and Pordenone.

Crossing the greenery of the Montello slopes, you can explore the sites of the Great War, such as the Military Shrine of Nervesa, the Sacello Francesco Baracca in the Bosco dei Dogi, the British Cemetery, and the Observatory of the King. You can also visit the Bunkers, the Grotta del Tavaran Grando, and conclude with a visit to the Museum of the Battle of the Solstice, which houses documents, photographs, and artifacts from World War I.
Or even by traveling along the ridge of the hills between Soligo and Col San Martino, where you can encounter the trenches and tunnels dug by the Austro-Hungarian army during the Great War.
You can also climb Mount Grappa, Mount Cesen, Monfenera, and Mount Pizzoc.

• Casatella DOP of Treviso. A fresh and creamy cow’s milk cheese with a delicate flavor and a slightly acidic touch;
• The Tiramisu, Italy’s most famous spoon dessert, which is said to have originated in Treviso;
• White Asparagus from Cimadolmo and Asparagus from Badoere IGP, traditionally consumed from early April to mid-June;
• Morlacco. A Slow Food Presidium. Raw cow’s milk cheese produced in the mountain huts of the Grappa Massif;
• Sopressa Trevigiana. A salami traditionally made with various cuts of pork, including the finest ones;
• Marroni di Combai and Marroni del Monfenera IGP, true autumn delicacies that can be enjoyed from September to early December.

Depending on the means of transportation you use, there are different ways to reach the Prosecco Hills area.
If you prefer to travel by car, you can take the A27 Venice-Belluno highway and exit at Conegliano or Vittorio Veneto. From there, you can follow the tourist signs for the Prosecco Route or the blue signs towards Conegliano or Valdobbiadene.

Alternatively, you can use the toll Superstrada Pedemontana Veneta and take the Montebelluna exits to reach Valdobbiadene. If you choose to arrive by train, you can take a train from Venice or Treviso to Conegliano or Vittorio Veneto stations, and from there, you can take a bus or a taxi.
