We will cover how to get there, what to see and do, where to stay and eat, what to bring with you on your bike, and what to pack for a perfect weekend in the birthplace of Prosecco between Valdobbiadene and Conegliano.

Morphology of the Prosecco Hills
descents, ascents, plains, and false flats

The Prosecco Road stretches across the Prosecco Hills, connecting Valdobbiadene with Conegliano. Characterized by gentle ups and downs, alternating slopes and moderately challenging climbs, the Prosecco Hills are part of the Treviso Pre-Alps or foothills. The morphology is defined by hilly and mountainous reliefs that extend between the Piave River and the Cansiglio Forest, marking the border between the provinces of Treviso and Belluno.

The Treviso foothills boast a diverse vegetation, including beech, red fir, and chestnut forests, as well as meadows, pastures, mountain huts (malghe), and long rows of vineyards cultivated on terraces.

Between the 11th and 13th centuries, the locality was greatly influenced by several members of the important medieval family from the Veneto, known as the Ezzelini. They were finally defeated in 1260. Marostica was a Venetian city until Venice joined Italy. During the 19th century it was mainly a relatively poor town; a great number of inhabitants went to look for fortune in Brazil and many other places in the world. The wealth of the town grew greatly after the second world war. If you’re interested in a weekend bike rental experience, you can enjoy the natural beauty, history, and charm of the Prosecco region while exploring its scenic routes on two wheels.
The tourist attractions along the cycling routes to visit during a weekend in the Prosecco Land are numerous, and which ones to encounter depends solely on the chosen itinerary.
For example, by traveling along the Strada del Prosecco, you can admire the landscape of the Prosecco hills, a UNESCO World Heritage site since 2019, and perhaps visit wineries and wine shops where you can taste the local sparkling wines.

Further downstream, you can admire the Castle of San Salvatore and, crossing the course of the Sacred River to the Fatherland, the Piave River, revisit history by visiting the places where some of the major battles of World War I took place, passing through locations and monuments such as Vidor, Moriago della Battaglia, Refrontolo, Follina, Cison di Valmarino, and Vittorio Veneto.
You can also visit the well-preserved passageway, the Galleria Passante, along the Sentiero delle Vedette between Soligo and Col San Martino.

Crossing the greenery of the Montello slopes, you can explore the sites of the Great War, such as the Military Shrine of Nervesa, the Sacello Francesco Baracca in the Bosco dei Dogi, the British Cemetery, and the Observatory of the King. You can also visit the Bunkers, the Grotta del Tavaran Grando, and conclude with a visit to the Museum of the Battle of the Solstice, which houses documents, photographs, and artifacts from World War I.
Or even by traveling along the ridge of the hills between Soligo and Col San Martino, where you can encounter the trenches and tunnels dug by the Austro-Hungarian army during the Great War.
You can also climb Mount Grappa, Mount Cesen, Monfenera, and Mount Pizzoc.

Gastronomic specialties to taste
while cycling between Conegliano and Valdobbiadene

The Strada del Prosecco is an itinerary that winds through hills, vineyards, and culinary identities.
Below, we offer you a menu of the main gastronomic specialties to taste during breaks or at the end of the tours, both in wineries and in taverns and restaurants between Valdobbiadene and Conegliano.

  • Prosecco DOCG Superiore from Conegliano and Valdobbiadene. Sparkling wine obtained from Glera grapes. From aperitif to full meals, we suggest to toast with Prosecco Extradry, reserving the Brut version for dishes and seafood specialties. For wine lovers, we recommend tasting the Superiore di Cartizze. This quality of Prosecco is slightly sweet and dense with a round flavor and is exclusively produced in a small Cru;
  • Red Radicchio of Treviso IGP, both early and late varieties. It has a crunchy texture and a pleasantly sweet-bitter taste. It can be enjoyed in winter in salads or cooked: fried, grilled, stewed, in risottos, and as fillings for first courses and meat dishes;
  • The traditional spit-roasted meats. A mix of meats of different sizes, including pork, chicken, rabbit, and sausage, cooked on the spit over charcoal;
  • Casatella DOP of Treviso. A fresh and creamy cow’s milk cheese with a delicate flavor and a slightly acidic touch;
  • The Tiramisu, Italy’s most famous spoon dessert, which is said to have originated in Treviso;
  • White Asparagus from Cimadolmo and Asparagus from Badoere IGP, traditionally consumed from early April to mid-June;
  • Morlacco. A Slow Food Presidium. Raw cow’s milk cheese produced in the mountain huts of the Grappa Massif;
  • Sopressa Trevigiana. A salami traditionally made with various cuts of pork, including the finest ones;
  • Marroni di Combai and Marroni del Monfenera IGP, true autumn delicacies that can be enjoyed from September to early December.

We have selected a network of Italy Cycling Tour Partners where you can arrange a stop or overnight stay, which you can find on our Hospitality page.
