Mountain Hut Bike Tour
in the Prosecco Hills

Come and discover the charm of the Mountain Huts in the Prosecco Hills by bike: an itinerary through nature, culture, and lots of flavor!

The general inventory of the Veneto Region has identified over 40 operating Mountain Huts in the territory of the Prosecco Hills. Mountain Huts are rustic and rural stone and wooden constructions found in alpine pastures, where livestock is raised during the summer grazing season.

They are often open to the public and, managed as refuges, offer typical products such as cheeses, cured meats, sausages, mushrooms, berries, and honey for tasting to visitors.

Mountain Hut Bike Tour
from Praderadego to Pianezze and back

The itinerary we propose is about 40 km long, crossing the provinces of Treviso and Belluno, and has an elevation gain of approximately 1,400 meters. It traverses hilly paths and designated tracks between the hills of Valmareno and Valbelluna, north of Valdobbiadene and Follina, and takes you on a journey to discover a selected list of the most fascinating Mountain Huts in this area.

This is a medium difficulty bike tour that requires confidence in riding on mixed terrain and a good level of physical fitness.

Bike Tour of the Malghe

The tour starts from the Italy Cycling Tour headquarters in Follina, Valmareno.

  • From here, the Malghe Tour will climb the road leading to Praderadego (approximately 10 km uphill) and continue towards the first malga (mountain dairy).
  • Once you reach Malga Canidi, you can enjoy the beautiful view of the surrounding valley.
  • From Malga Canidi, the tour continues along a dirt path until reaching Malga Mont.
  • Malga Mont is a farm located in a spectacular position on Monte Crep.
  • After taking a rest, the tour of the Malghe continues to the traditional cuisine offered by the Rifugio Posa Puner for a snack.
  • From Rifugio Rosa Puner, you descend from Monte Crep to visit Malga Mont.
  • From Malga Mont, you descend the Monte Madean, which will take you to the village of Combai, from where you return to the starting point.
  • It is a circular route and can be ridden in both directions.

Praderadego Pass

Praderadego Pass is located at an altitude of 910 meters. It is a mountain pass that connects the Treviso and Belluno sides of the Prealps, linking the municipalities of Follina and Mel. There are many bike paths that cross the pass and the surrounding hills.

Typical Specialties to Taste in the Malghe

The Malghe are famous for their dairy specialties produced with alpine milk. Don’t miss the tasting of cheeses such as Morlacco, Bastardo, and Latteria. The cheeses and goat milk yogurt are also delicious. Polenta is a staple, and here it is enjoyed with cured meats, mushrooms, and spit-roasted meats.
